Pivot Your Content To Your Dream Career With Pao
What do you think makes your content unique?
My biggest differentiator is that I'm genuinely a K-pop fan, so I truly understand what fans want to see and expect. I believe I connect naturally with my audience because they can feel the same things I do, and I can feel the same things they do.
How did you start creating content, and what was your initial goal?
I started creating content, like many people, during the pandemic. At that time, I was just starting university and, because of everything that was happening, I decided to take a year off to think about what I wanted to do. I've always been a very communicative person, so I simply started recording myself talking about the groups I liked, the shows I was watching, and more. Honestly, at the beginning I didn't have a clear goal with social media — I was just doing it for fun, and everything naturally fell into place.
At what point did you realize your content could open doors into the entertainment industry?
After a few years of creating content focused only on K-pop and K-dramas, my first opportunities came to create content about Latin America with some K-pop groups. At that moment, I realized there was very little content like this, and that it was a great opportunity to continue connecting the entertainment industry with Latin America, because people really loved it.
What are the first steps a creator should take if they want to work in entertainment?
I think the most important step is to define what you want to achieve and what type of content you want to create — whether it's interviews, activities, or dance.
Think about a unique style that sets you apart from others. At the beginning, it might be a bit difficult, but always look for opportunities, knock on doors, and trust that eventually one will open for you. That's how everything starts, and there will always be someone willing to give you a chance to begin!
What mistakes should creators avoid?
I think one of the biggest mistakes some creators make is not following the guidelines that many agencies have when working with their artists. As creators, we're used to having full control over our content, but that's not the case when working with artists. They might ask you to avoid certain questions, make changes to your videos, or not publish things that you personally thought were great. However, it's important to respect their way of working so that more opportunities can come your way and you can present yourself as a professional, which is very important in this industry.
How can creators use their platforms more intentionally to reach their dream career?
Do you think consistency, niche, or personality matters more — and why?
I think that in many cases, it's important for your content to be intentionally focused on Korean entertainment, since most of your audience will be people who are interested in it, and it will also be more appealing to agencies because it aligns with their target audience for promotion. As for the second question, I think everything matters. Your niche gives you direction, consistency drives growth, but personality is what truly connects with people.
What is it really like to interview idols and actors?
A lot of people ask me about this, and I want to say that even though it may seem amazing to be next to an idol or actor, there's a lot of work behind the scenes. From securing the interview to sending the questions for approval, the process is quite detailed.
During the recording, time is often very limited, so we have to do everything in just a few minutes — there was even one time when I only had five minutes to create content with an idol!
After filming, the interview needs to be translated from Korean or English into Spanish, then sent for editing. Once it's ready, it has to be sent to the agency for review, and in most cases, they request one or several revisions that need to be made.
Only after everything is approved can the content finally be published.
As you can see, it's a fairly long process and sometimes a bit stressful haha, but I truly enjoy it and love what I do!
It's a phrase l've practiced a lot, and I say it so naturally that they're always surprised to hear it!
It's really fun to see their reactions or when they reply saying my Korean is very good and start asking me more things that I don't know how to answer!
Another amazing part is when artists share my work on their social media. It's like, "wow, I'm really on the stories of an artist l've admired for so many years!" It makes me so happy to know that they genuinely liked my work and that's why they're sharing it!
What would you say to someone who dreams of working in entertainment through content creation?
Never give up — dreams do come true! It might sound cliché, but I truly believe it. With effort and dedication, you can achieve anything you set your mind to. There will be many moments when doors close on you, but don't let that stop you. Keep going, and always trust who you are, what you do, and why you do it.
Also, never be afraid to ask for help or advice. There are always kind people willing to support you, and you can also become that person for someone else.
I wish you success in everything you do!
